TANAP’s gas transportation volume to Turkey in January-May revealed

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 24

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

The volume of gas transportation to Turkey via the Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP), the longest part of the Southern Gas Corridor, stood at 1.6 billion cubic meters from January through May 2020, Trend reports with reference to Azerbaijan’s Energy Ministry.

Gas supplies to Turkey via TANAP since the date of commissioning till June 1 equaled to 5.47 billion cubic meters.

In general, Azerbaijan’s gas exports abroad stood at 5.6 billion cubic meters from January through May 2020, or 13.4 percent more than in the same period of 2019.

Starting from late June 2020, the annual transportation volume via TANAP to Turkey will reach 6 billion cubic meters.

TANAP project envisages transportation of gas from Stage 2 of Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz field from Georgian-Turkish border to Turkey’s western border. The total cost of TANAP turned out to be lower than $7 billion.

The initial capacity of TANAP is expected to stand at 16 billion cubic meters of gas per year, with possibility of expanding to 31 billion cubic meters per year in the future. Around 6 billion cubic meters of gas will be delivered to Turkey, while the rest of the volume will be supplied to Europe.

The Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline is almost 100 percent complete.
