BTC oil transportation dynamics since 2008

The volume of oil transportation via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline to Turkey stood at 175.965 million barrels from January through October 2020, Trend reports referring to BOTAS company.

Looking back to 2008, Turkey received 264.092 million barrels of oil via BTC. The upward trend continued in 2009 with 285.492 million barrels and in 2010 with 286.214 million barrels.

Three consecutive years BTC oil transportation to Turkey kept on falling to 257.143 million barrels in 2011, 250.345 million barrels in 2012 and 249.617 million barrels in 2013.

The recovery period started from 2014 when this figure rose to 260.675 million barrels and then to 262.188 million barrels in 2015, before nosediving again to 253.976 million barrels in 2016 and 252.763 million barrels in 2017.

Turkey imported 255.770 million barrels via BTC in 2018 and 235.243 million barrels in 2019.

The BTC pipeline currently carries mainly ACG crude oil and Shah Deniz condensate from Azerbaijan. In addition, other volumes of crude oil and condensate continue to be transported via BTC, including volumes from Turkmenistan, Russia and Kazakhstan.

The BTC Co. shareholders are: BP (30.1 percent); AzBTC (25 percent); MOL (replaced Chevron as of 16 April 2020 (8.9 percent); Equinor (8.71 percent); TPAO (6.53 percent).
