The volume of oil extraction in Kazakhstan amounted to 49.8 million tons over the first seven months of 2021, which is 1 percent less than the planned volume, Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister Nurlan Nogayev said, Trend reports.
Of this volume, some 15.9 million tons were extracted at country’s Tengiz field, 8.7 million tons at Kashagan, and 6.9 million tons at Karachaganak. The volume of oil expected stood at 39.3 million tons.
Kazakhstan has extracted 85.7 million tons of oil in 2021 and the plan for 2021 is 86 million tons.
The Kashagan field is one of the three largest oil fields located in the northern part of the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea. Its recoverable reserves reach approximately 9-13 billion barrels (1-2 billion tons) of oil.
The Karachaganak field, discovered in 1979, is one of the world’s largest gas and condensate fields. Located in north-west Kazakhstan and covering an area of over 280 square kilometers, it holds estimated hydrocarbons initially in place (HIIP) of 9 billion barrels of condensate and 48 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas, with estimated gross reserves of over 2.4 billion barrels of condensate and 16 tcf of gas
The Tengiz oil field was discovered in 1979 and is one of the biggest and deepest oil fields in the world. The total explored reserves of Tengiz reach 3.2 billion tons, while recoverable reserves range from 890 million tons to 1.37 billion tons.
