TEHRAN, Iran, April 18. Iran is ready to start drilling in Arash/Durra joint gas field, if it can not reach joint development with Saudi and Kuwait, said the former Iranian oil deputy Mehdi Hosseini, Trend reports citing IRNA.
He pointed out that Saudi Arabia and Kuwait seem interested in negotiating with Iran to decide on how to develop the joint field. However, if negotiations will not reach a result, Iran can start the development itself by installing a drilling rig.
Iran has formed joint technical committees with neighboring countries to discuss the development of joint fields but if it can not reach an agreement for cooperation in joint fields development Iran could start the process itself based on technical committees.
Arash/Durra is a giant shared offshore gas field that extends across Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait.
