BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 24. EU countries exempt from possible Russian oil ban should also find a solution, Robert Habeck, German’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, said at the World Economic Forum, Trend reports.

“I think there are different solutions possible. First of all, I would admit that different countries have different situations. There is a difference between for example, Portugal and Hungary, the Baltic states and Spain. We have to be very careful so that not to apply same rules to everyone without seeing the difficult situation that some states face. But saying this, I expect every country, including Hungary to work to find a solution. We may have some exceptions for some countries, but they must lead to a common answer. The best thing that happened over the past three months is that the Euro-Atlantic coalition was very firm in face of the violation of the international law. Staying together is the most important thing,” he said.

In early May European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen unveiled the sixth package of sanctions against Russia on Wednesday, including a complete ban on all Russian oil and refined petroleum products within the next six months and more sanctions against banks.

EU leaders will hold a special summit in Brussels on 30-31 May, where the package of sanctions is expected to be formally approved.

Hungary and Slovakia, which are heavily dependent on Russian energy imports, may get an exemption.
