BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug.1. Bonatti, the international general contractor providing services to the energy industry, is building a new compression station in Greece to supply the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB), Trend reports.
The EPC basis compression station will be constructed for DESFA, the Greek National Natural Gas Transmission System. It will be located near the border with Türkiye and Bulgaria and will be connected to gas networks of Greece and Bulgaria. The purpose of the project is to strengthen supply to the south and center of Europe.
Bonatti will deliver comprehensive engineering, procurement, and construction services for DESFA's plant. The scope of work encompasses the installation of three cutting-edge BH compressors, with a provision for future expansion through the incorporation of a fourth compressor.
A standout feature of the new compression station is its "H2 ready" qualification, making it well-prepared to operate with hydrogen, considering the anticipated developments in the energy market.
The project is already underway and being executed on a "fast-track" basis. The company aims to complete the project within an ambitious timeframe of just 22 months.
The IGB gas pipeline connects with the Greek national gas transmission system (DESFA S.A.) and the Trans-Adriatic gas pipeline (TAP AG) in the area of Komotini (Greece), and with the Bulgarian gas transmission system (Bulgartransgaz EAD) in the area of Stara Zagora. The total length of the gas pipeline is 182 km, the diameter of the pipe - 32'' - and a design capacity of up to 3 billion m3/year in the direction Greece - Bulgaria. Depending on the market interest for larger capacity and the possibilities of the neighboring gas transmission systems, the capacity of IGB is designed with the option for increase up to 5 billion m3/year with additional construction of a compressor station.
