ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 3. QazaqGaz (Kazakhstan's national company) and QatarEnergy LNG plan to start cooperation in the gas sector, Trend reports.
This was announced during the meeting of Chairman of the Board of QazaqGaz Sanjar Jarkeshov with the General Director of QatarEnergy LNG Khalid Bin Khalifa Al-Thani.
During the meeting, the parties discussed potential partnerships in the gas industry. In particular, the companies will consider the prospects for cooperation in the field of gas processing, gas chemistry, as well as joint implementation of compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects in Kazakhstan.
"We see great prospects for cooperation with QatarEnergy LNG in the gas sector and express our readiness to effectively use the potential in this area. I am confident that Kazakh-Qatari cooperation can become a catalyst for the creation and implementation of new energy projects," Jarkeshov said.
In addition, representatives of the companies discussed issues of attracting investments, as well as the exchange of technologies and accumulated practical experience within the framework of the work of the QazaqGaz scientific and technical center.
QatarEnergy LNG is the world's largest LNG producer with its seven plants. It produces and supplies 77 million tons of LNG annually worldwide.
Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Qatar in 2022 amounted to $6.64 million (exports - $5.56 million, imports - $1.08 million). In 2021, this figure amounted to $6.34 million (exports - $5.92 million, imports - $418,600), in 2020 - $8.55 million (exports – $5.75 million, imports – $2.8 million).
In the first quarter of 2023, the volume of bilateral trade turnover increased 17.7 times.
In this regard, Kazakhstan proposed to increase the export of Kazakh products to Qatar for 60 commodity items worth about $243 million.
