ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, December 7. Iraq is assembling a delegation to negotiate a daily import of 25 million cubic meters of natural gas from Turkmenistan's Turkmengaz State Concern, said Ali Ahmed, Director General of Electricity Production in the Central Region of the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, Trend reports.

According to him, this quantity is sufficient to meet the needs of Iraq's six power plants 100 percent of the time.

Furthermore, Ali Ahmed emphasized that these import quantities are aimed to meet the country's increasing demand for electricity.

He emphasized that there is a link between the southern and central production regions, which will contribute to increased natural gas supply stability, in addition to its impact on electricity supply stability.

Concurrently, the CEO stated that if the quantity is available, the need for natural gas installations represented by Mansouriya, Al-Sadr, and Bismaya stations, as well as a portion of the second southern Baghdad gas stations, and the Al-Quds and Al-Taji stations, will be met 100 percent.

Meanwhile, a protocol on the major commercial parameters of the Turkmen natural gas purchase and sale deal was signed in Ashgabat by officials of Turkmengaz State Concern and an Iraqi team led by Minister of Electricity Ziad Ali Fadel.

Under the swap program, 9 billion cubic meters of Turkmen natural gas will be transferred annually from Iran to Iraq over a five-year period.
