BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 17. The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline experienced a rise in oil transportation volume, reaching 30.2 million tons in 2023 compared to 29.7 million tons in 2022, as per the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, Trend reports.
This reflects a 1.5 percent year-on-year increase in oil transportation via the BTC pipeline, which accounted for a significant 75.9 percent of the total 39.8 million tons of oil transported through Azerbaijan's main oil pipelines in 2023.
Within the 24.95 million tons of Azerbaijani oil transported via the BTC, 82.6 percent of the total volume supplied through the pipeline, with an additional 17.4 percent (5.2 million tons) sourced from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. Notably, the volume of transit oil transported via the BTC in 2022 amounted to 5.1 million tons.
The BTC pipeline, a key route for transporting crude oil from Azeri-Chirag-Gunahsli (ACG) and condensate from Shah Deniz, also continues to handle volumes of oil and condensate from Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
Shareholders of BTC Co. include bp (30.1%), SOCAR (25.00%), MOL (8.90%), Equinor (8.71%), TPAO (6.53%), Eni (5.00%), TotalEnergies (5.00%), ITOCHU (3.40%), INPEX (2.50%), ExxonMobil (2.50%), and ONGC Videsh (2.36%).
In a significant development at the end of December 2023, SOCAR acquired Equinor’s shares in Azerbaijani projects, including BTC, with transactions set to be completed subject to regulatory requirements and contractual obligations.
