LNG terminal operator in Greek Alexandroupolis reveals its commercial ops launch timing

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 8. The new liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Alexandroupolis, Greece, will commence commercial operations by the end of April 2024, Trend reports via the terminal operator Gastrade.

This LNG terminal, with a capacity of 5.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year, will be the second in Greece after the Revithoussa terminal.

Additionally, its second phase, capable of handling five billion cubic meters per year, may come online in 2026.

At that point, the total transshipment volume of LNG by Greece from various suppliers will reach 16 billion cubic meters per year.

A gas pipeline is being laid from the LNG terminal in Alexandroupolis to connect it to the Greek gas network.

"The terminal and this network will allow gas delivery to buyers in Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, North Macedonia, Serbia, and, in the future, Moldova and Ukraine," Gastrade said.

Meanwhile, apart from Gastrade, shareholders of the new LNG terminal include companies such as Copelouzou, DESFA, Bulgartransgaz, and GasLog.

This terminal will serve as a hub for Southern Europe.
