Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend / A fire occurred in the seventh energy block of Azerbaijan's Shimal energy station capable of 150 MW. The fire was put out and nobody was injured as a result, according to Azerenerji JSC. A special commission was established to ascertain the cause of the fire.
The energy block had been in operation since 1960. After a combined-cycle plant was launched in the territory of the electric station in 2002, the seventh energy block was only partially used.
The combined-cycle plant is currently being repaired so the old seventh energy block was used to compensate for power.
Azerenerji JSC is holding a tender for construction of the second combined-cycle plant in the territory of the electric station. The old energy block will be liquidated afterwards.
