The Central Bank of Iran (CBI) will continue to support productive enterprises, although its necessary to follow up on their bank debts, said CBI governor Abdolnasser Hemmati, Trend reports via ILNA.
"Collecting delayed bank debts is necessary, but it shouldn't be the reason for the enterprises to close down," he said.
Hemmati said the banks should follow up on the delayed payments, but it is important to cooperate with the enterprises themselves, not to push them towards closure.
"The Central Bank of Iran is insisting on support of productive enterprises," Hemmati said. "There are effective regulations in this regard, but there is need for certain reforms."
"The Money and Credit Council ( the highest banking policy-making body of CBI) has approved to delay the debt payments of the enterprises for 5 years and also took on 7.5 percent of the debts. So, I ask all the banks to follow up on this action," Hemmati said.
"Supporting production needs healthy and stable banks, the bank advances belong to depositors, so resuming these resources would help banks to finance production," he added.
Iranian government has requested banks to provide more supportive measures to businesses and productive units that have suffered due to the COVID-19 spread.
