The head of the Planning and Budget Organization asked the parliament to put the government bill on increasing the pensions on the agenda.

The tenth session of reviewing the Iranian next year`s budget bill (starts on March 21) is being held on Sunday, Trend reports citing Tasnim News Agency.

The head of PBO, Mohammad Baqer Nobakht, delivered his speech at the session today.

He went on to emphasize the necessity of government and parliament`s cooperation to increase pensions.

“Out of $35 million of budget mentioned in an article of the budget bill, $7.6 million is allocated to increase the pensions covered by Social Security Organization and $4.2 million to increase pensions covered by the Civil Servants Pension Fund,” he said.

He said that three months ago, two urgent bills were submitted to the parliament to allow social security organizations to increase the pension’s payments.

"We ask the presidium of the parliament to approve government bills and to be able to provide the needed resources," he said.

The Speaker of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, responded to the comments of the head of the Planning and Budget Organization.

"Solving the problems of the Social Security Organization, the Armed Forces Pension Fund, the Civil Servants Pension Fund, and solving workers' problems have always been among the parliament's concerns. The Parliament does not seek to reduce the pension ceiling but the increase in pensions should not lead to inflation” Qalibaf said.
