BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 14. The amount of foreign currency provided by the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) for importing goods to Iran has increased by 36.8 percent during the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through August 22, 2022), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Director General of the CBI, Ali Salehabadi said, Trend reports citing the bank’s website.

According to Salehabadi, about $26 billion was provided for the imports to the country, while in the same period last Iranian year, the figure stood at about $19 billion.

The director general added that currently, the Central Bank has enough foreign currency reserves.

“At present, the demand for foreign currency in Iran is much lower than the amount put up for sale countrywide. Over 5 months, about $1 billion worth of foreign currency was bought and sold in Iran,” he said.
