Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 25 / Trend H.Valiyev /

The Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences' (ANAS) Information Technology Institute (ITI) will launch cloud computing technology by late 2011, ITI Logistics Department Chief Rashid Alakbarov told Trend.

He said the construction of a DATA-center is underway. The technology will initially be available to the employees of more than 35 scientific research institutes at the Academy of Sciences. In the future, all scholars and higher educational institutions will have access.

"To realize this project, we are currently negotiating with international vendors such as IBM and HP, to which we have already presented our technical requirements. According to our calculations, initially our DATA-center's performance will be 1.5 teraflops, with a RAM of 700 GB and an external array of about 20 terabytes. These are our initial calculations, and certainly in the future the center's resources can be increased in case of necessity," he said.

Providing end users with remote access to the dynamic cloud computing will be done directly via the AzScienceNet academic computer network, whose data transfer speed exceeds 100 Mbps.

Alakbarov said users will have access to three managed services to SaaS (software-as-a-service), PaaS (platform-as-a-service) and IaaS (infrastructure-as-a-Service).
