Iran to develop optical fiber technology

TEHRAN, Iran, August 15. The Iranian government is seeking to develop optical fiber technology that would support 20 million businesses and households by August 2025, said the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Issa Zarepour, Trend reports citing IRNA.

He stressed that the issue of internet speed will be solved by using optical fibers to deliver fast internet to homes and businesses.

Following the progress in the last Iranian year (started March 21, 2021), the data transmission from Iran is currently doubled to 2.5 Terabytes (TB) per second and the country can transform into a regional internet transit hub if it reaches its targets, the minister noted.

According to the official, in addition to the increase in capacities of optical fiber network, the network of transmission bandwidth and the national Internet Protocol (IP) have increased and Iran has diversified the routes to supply internet to the country.
