Compal UMPC looks like HTC PDA phone on steroids

( Mobile ) - I couldn't find a model number, but this UMPC from the folks at Compal seems to fit snugly in its own little segment. It's bigger than most PDA phones, but it's smaller than the 7-inch UMPCs we've come to expect. Sporting a 4.3-inch color display, the Compal offering grants you access to 16 million colors, WVGA (800 x 480) resolution, and a decent, if not overwhelming, set of features.

Powering the beast is a Freescale i.MX31 532MHz (ARM1136) processor and Windows CE 5.0. It's nowhere close to being a desktop replacement, however, as there is only 512MB of NAND flash memory at your disposal, in addition to the 256 megabytes of DDR RAM that keep the show running. There's also a miniSD card slot, 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0, 802.11b/g WiFi, and HSDPA.

The sliding QWERTY keyboard reminds of so many HTC products, but without GSM radios, you won't be using this as a phone (unless you're talking about VoIP) any time soon. Look for the Compal UMPC to drop by the end of the year.
