Trend:

Less than 15 out of 120 trains currently operate in Iran due to coronavirus outbreak, said Iran Railways CEO, Saeid Rasouli, Trend reports citing ILNA.

“This decline has been due to the lack of demand,” he added.

He pointed to the implementation of a package of support for rail companies that have suffered significant losses from ticket sales during this period.

“This pandemic has affected the economies all over the world, especially such spheres as tourism, transportation and micro-business,” said Rasouli.

“General regulations, including a three-month extension in loan repayment will be applied to all rail companies,” he explained.

Referring to the plans to prevent the spread of coronavirus, Rasouli said that since the very first day, the Islamic Republic of Iran Railway Company has implemented the necessary measures for preventing the spread of the virus.

“The passengers are constantly monitored, and train officers are required to call emergency, if there are any passengers with COVID-19 symptoms,” he said.
