By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Baku-Tbilisi-Kars is a potential alternative route for Lithuania to deliver goods to/from China, Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania told Trend.

“Lithuania has established a well-functioning multimodal transport and logistics system and plays an important transit country role in the East-West and North-South transportation corridors; therefore, our country offers Azerbaijan a safe, fast and inexpensive transportation of Azerbaijani cargo to Europe and the Scandinavian countries.

“The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line, which is an important part of the Southern route to China, is for us a potential alternative route to delivering goods to/from China. We are interested in Azerbaijan's plans for these transportations.

“The development of transport infrastructure in the Eastern Partnership region is a key element of the European Neighborhood Policy. Lithuania, being a member of the European Union, strongly supports the expansion of the TEN-T network to the transport network of the Eastern Partnership countries. Lithuania invites Azerbaijan to closely cooperate with the EU in the framework of existing programs and instruments aimed at enhancing the transport interconnection between the EU and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

“Lithuania welcomes a mutually beneficial cooperation with Azerbaijan in transport sector and has a strong belief that it will further develop successfully.

“Lithuanian and Azerbaijani transport specialists visited ports of the two countries. Lithuania always encourages exchange of experience and good practical examples which are beneficial for the ports’ development, helps to provide better services and increases traffic volumes, said the ministry.
