Delivery of equipment to Chabahar port to continue

Four cranes will be delivered to the Chabahar port of Sistan and Baluchestan (southeastern Iran) by the first half of next Iranian year (until September 21, 2021), said Behrouz Aghaei, the Director-General of Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran’s (PMO) branch in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, Trend reports referring to the PMO’s website.

Aghaei noted that thus, the number of cranes brought by India to the Chabahar port will increase to six. That means 30 percent of India's $85 million investments are made into Iran's Chabahar port.

He added that in the first stage, two 140-ton cranes worth $8.5 million were delivered to the Chabahar port.

The director general emphasized that in addition, 2 units 100-ton cranes will be delivered to the port by the end of the current Iranian year (until March 21, 2021). In total, the loading and unloading of cargo at the Chabahar port will increase by 20 million tons per year with the installation of 6 cranes at the Chabahar port.

Aghaei said that a number of concessions are planned to increase activities in the Chabahar port. Thus, there is a 40-percent discount on cargo transportation and port operations from 4 ports in India to the Chabahar port and vice versa.

According to a memorandum between Iran, India and Afghanistan, the Iranian port of Chabahar is used for trade between India and Afghanistan. Indian Ports Global Ltd (IPGL) is the operator of the Chabahar port will invest $85 million to the port.

About 316,000 tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at the Chabahar port of the Sistan and Baluchestan Province (southeastern Iran) in the 9th month of the current Iranian year (November 21-December 20, 2020).

Thus, 56,900 tons of cargo were loaded and 259,000 tons were unloaded at the port over the reporting month.
