BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 21. Freight transport through the Azerbaijani part of the Transport Corridor Europe Caucasus Asia (TRACECA) totaled over 51.42 million tons in 2022, up by 29.76 percent against 2021, the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan told Trend.
During this period, the cargo turnover through the mentioned direction exceeded 12.64 billion ton-kilometers, which is 31.9 percent more than in 2021.
Meantime, road freight accounted for over 27.96 million tons (54.4 percent), rail freight transport – over 16.84 million tons (32.7 percent), and sea freight transport – over 6.6 million tons (12.9 percent) out of Azerbaijan's overall cargo traffic volume.
Out of the total cargo transportation, more than 13.6 million tons (26.5 percent) came in transit cargo movement.
Last week TRACECA and Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) have agreed to develop routes and attract new cargo jointly. The parties intend to exchange information related to transport and strengthening socio-economic conditions in the regions of Europe, the Caucasus, and Asia, which will create a favorable investment climate. In addition, this cooperation will contribute to the development of the transport sector of the entire region, and the expansion of transport opportunities and will serve as a new impetus for the promotion of transport links.
