BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 9. Overall, 43 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Iran’s Imam Khomeini port in Khuzestan Province (south-western Iran), over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), Director General of Ports and Maritime Department in Khuzestan Province, Behrouz Aghaei told reporters, Trend reports citing MANA News Agency.

“Of the mentioned volume, 17 million tons of petrochemical products were loaded/unloaded at the port for export purpose,” Aghaei said.

The director general stressed that the proximity of some petrochemical facilities to the Imam Khomeini port has created easier conditions for the export of such products through the port.

Also, 15 million tons of essential products were unloaded at Imam Khomeini port during the last Iranian year, he added.

According to Aghaei, the special economic zone located in the Imam Khomeini port can create great opportunities for investors. This may result in an increase in the export of petrochemical products and other products via this port.

Iran's Imam Khomeini port is located in the northwest of the Persian Gulf. The port has capacity to receive 60 million tons of cargo per year.

There are 22 petrochemical plants operating in Iran's Imam Khomeini Special Economic Zone and it is possible to produce about 26 million tons of petrochemical products per year.
