ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, February 28. Ashgabat will host a meeting of representatives of the five countries of the Lapis Lazuli Corridor project in the near future, Trend reports.
According to the official source, these issues were discussed in Ashgabat during a meeting between the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, and a delegation headed by the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, Amir Khan Muttaqi, who arrived in Turkmenistan.
In particular, the parties discussed efforts and ways to develop the Lapis Lazuli Corridor in the context of transport issues.
Meanwhile, the Lapis lazuli Corridor is a transit project between Türkiye, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, an agreement on which was signed in October 2017 within the framework of the 7th Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan, held in Ashgabat.
An agreement that provides for the connection of railway, automobile, and sea routes to form a trade corridor.
At the same time, for Afghanistan, the implementation of such a trade and transport project is the shortest, cheapest and most reliable trade route with Europe.
