BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 8. National carriers Bulgaria Air and Azerbaijan's AZAL plan to start operating a direct international flight between Baku and Sofia in June, an informed source told Trend.
"Starting from June 14, flights on the Baku-Sofia-Baku route will be operated twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays," the source explained.
In March, the Bulgarian government delegated authority to Bulgaria Air to discuss with AZAL the establishment of regular passenger flights on the Sofia-Baku-Sofia route twice a week.
Huseyn Huseynov, Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Bulgaria, stressed that the direct flight's launch in 2024 is intended to facilitate travel between the two countries, creating new prospects for business visits and transit passengers.
Furthermore, the Bulgarian government stated that "this initiative represents a significant step forward in strengthening communication between Bulgaria and the Caspian Sea region, providing travelers with greater accessibility and convenience." Bulgaria and Azerbaijan will gain from increased chances for tourism, trade, and economic cooperation.
