The opening of two landmarks -- the Hazrat Sultan mosque and the new Opera House -- is planned for this year in the Kazakh capital of Astana, Mayor Imangali Tasmagambetov told the country's president on Wednesday at a meeting on Astana's further development.

"This year landmark facilities -- mosque and a classic opera theatre -- will be commissioned," said Tasmagambetov.

According to the Mayor, over the past three years, four million square meters of housing have been commissioned in the capital, another 5 million square meters will be built over the next three years. As many as 3000 apartments were allocated under the Program "Rental Housing" from the state fund.

"Your commission for the construction of affordable housing is being implemented. Thus, under the credit system through "House Construction Savings Bank" 1,500 apartments will be built during three years. Land has been reserved. In addition, the intensive study of Mynzhyldyk Alley area begins, during which it's planned to build about 8.5 million square meters of housing," the mayor said.

He noted that the capital will raise a barrier to spontaneous building.

"Private residential construction will be carried out only on the basis of uniform standards of urban planning," said Tasmagasmbetov.

In turn, the head of state added that "the settlements should be built on a single project, approved by architects".
