Kazakhstan reveals planned volume of cargo transportation by rail by 2023-end

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 20. Kazakhstan plans to transport 300 million tons of cargo by rail by the end of 2023, Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov said at a meeting on the further development of the transport and transit potential of the republic, Trend reports.

From January to October 2023, the volume of freight transported totaled 246 million tons, a 3.3 percent increase over the same time last year.

Over 1,300 km of railways are planned to be built in the future years, considerably increasing Kazakhstan's transit potential. These are the Dostyk-Moyynty, Bakhty-Ayagoz, Darbaza-Maktaaral, and Almaty bypass lines, in particular.

In addition, work will be done to restore existing railway roads, buy new locomotives and cars, and update stations and terminal complexes.

Furthermore, loading on the Kazakhstan Railways network was 213.8 million tons from January to October 2023, 2.1 tons more than the same period previous year.

Over 138 million tons were transported by rail throughout the republic. Exports increased by 7.1 percent to 75.7 million tons.

During the reporting period, over 87.3 million tons of coal were loaded. Including within the republic - 61.2 million tons.
