BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 1. Turkmenistan increased import of lumber from Russia in 2022, Trend reports via the Russian Roslesinforg forest accounting and forest management organization.

According to the information, during last year Turkmenistan imported 101,000 cubic meters of lumber, which is 28 percent more than the imported volume for 2021.

In general, the volume of lumber exports from Russia in 2022 decreased by 20.8 percent and amounted to 23.3 million cubic meters.

Furthermore, more than half of the volume of Russian lumber exports in 2022 fell to China, where over 13 million cubic meters were sent, which is seven percent lower than the results of 2021.

Uzbekistan became the second largest buyer of lumber from Russia last year (1.9 million cubic meters). At the same time, the volume of deliveries remained at the same level as in 2021.

Turkmenistan has been increasing the production and import of lumber in recent years due to the increase in construction work in the country and the opening of new furniture manufacturing enterprises. Thus, the woodworking industry of Turkmenistan increased by 23.7 percent in 2020 due to new processing enterprises.

Meanwhile, Turkmenistan imported 180 tons of lumber from the Tomsk Region of Russia alone in 2021.
