TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, January 31. A newly announced project for the design, building, operation, and maintenance of Uzbekistan’s Tashkent-Andijan toll road piqued the interest of French firm Meridiam, Trend reports.
The news follows a meeting between Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Umrzakov and a delegation led by Remy Hassenforder, Director for Eurasia at the Meridiam investment fund.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects and stages of several major projects in Uzbekistan. A key topic was the construction of general secondary schools across various regions of the country, utilizing a new and innovative public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Special attention was given to the potential for further collaboration in the sectors of education, healthcare, transport, and other infrastructure through PPP frameworks.
Representatives from Meridiam highlighted the significant investment potential in Uzbekistan, expressing their intention to establish long-term cooperation in the country's social and transport infrastructure sectors. They commended the ongoing reforms and PPP-based projects and conveyed their readiness to bring their expertise and innovative financial solutions to the table.
The meeting also covered strategies for improving investment attraction and financing mechanisms for projects. The company's representatives reaffirmed their strong interest in PPP-based initiatives in Uzbekistan and shared insights on expanding cooperation in infrastructure with a focus on long-term sustainable investments.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to future cooperation and mutual support in the implementation of joint projects.
