Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has delivered an invitation to his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani to pay an official visit to Turkmenistan at any time, the Turkmen government said on Wednesday.

"The date of the visit will be agreed through diplomatic channels in accordance with the parties' agreement," according to a statement.

The invitation was delivered during the meeting between the Turkmen president and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. The interstate cooperation issues were discussed during the meeting, according to the report.

"A unanimous opinion was expressed that the trusting nature of the interstate relations allows Turkmenistan and Iran not only effectively implementing the agreements, but working out new fields of business partnership."

Turkmenistan and Iran have a long land border. A number of large-scale joint projects have been implemented during years of long-term cooperation.

The North-South large-scale railway project is being implemented on the basis of the tripartite agreement signed by Kazakhstan, Iran and Turkmenistan in 2007.
