Some 171,212 cars were produced in Iran in the first two months of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 20 – May 20).
The figure indicates a slight rise by 6 percent compared to the same months of preceding year, Iran’s industry, mines and trade ministry’s official SHATA news portal reported.
Sedan cars output stood at 158,571 in the mentioned period, compared to 150,556 cars in March 20 – May 20, 2015.
Iran also produced 11,384 pickup trucks, 29 minibuses, 59 buses and 1,169 trucks in the two-month period.
Samand (63,483), Pride (25,164), Peugeot 405 (20,679), Peugeot 206 (17,021), Peugeot Pars (15,167) and Tiba (12,684) were on top of the list of the sedans produced in that period.
Iran’s car output reached 982,337 units in 2015, according to the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA). The figure indicated a 9.9-percent fall year-on-year.
Iran was the world’s 20th biggest car manufacturer by end of 2015, meanwhile the country stood at the 18th place in the first half of 2015.
The Islamic Republic manufactured 884,866 sedans and 97,471 commercial vehicles in 2015.
Iran manufactured 555,954 vehicles in the first half of 2015, showing a 13.9-percent growth year-on-year.
The 2014 production statistics by the OICA indicates that Iran’s car production increased by 46.7 percent and stood at 1.1 million cars.
