By Fatih Karimov – Trend:

Iran and Oman will hold a tender soon to choose contractor for the joint gas pipeline, Alireza Kameli, the managing director of National Iranian Gas Exports Company, said.

The tender will be held once the results of the project’s studies are submitted, Kameli said, oil ministry’s SHANA news agency reported Aug. 1.

He further said that studies on land section of the project will be completed within the next two months, meanwhile the sea section studies need three months to be finalized.

Various European and Asian companies have expressed readiness for investment in the project and its implementation, Kameli said.

The Iran-Oman gas pipeline project has two land and sea sections. The land section stretches from Rudan to Kuhmobarak (in Iran), and the sea section from there via the Gulf to the Omani port. Each of the parts is 200 kilometers long.

The studies on the land part of the project which includes the 200-km pipeline and compressor stations is underway with participation of Iranian consultant companies.

Based on an agreement signed between Tehran-Muscat in 2013, Iran will export 28 million cubic meters of gas to Oman per day via a sub-sea pipeline within 15 years.

Last September, after bilateral negotiations in Tehran, it was announced that the project will be operational by end of 2017.
