ICT to help Iran to tackle unemployment

Iranian government plans to deal with unemployment issue through creating new job opportunities in the sector of information and communications technology (ICT).

Ali Rabie, the minister of co-operatives, labour and social welfare, has said that the ICT sector accounts for 10 percent of job opportunities in the Iranian job market, the government’s official news website reported.

He added that the share of the ICT sector in the country’s job market is projected to reach 12 percent over the next fiscal year (starting March 21).

He further forecasted that ICT sector’s share in the job market would reach 20 percent in future.
According to the latest report from the Iranian Statistical Center, about 23.03 million of Iranians above 10 years old were employed last summer.

The number of unemployed Iranians above 10 years old reached 3.337 million by Sept. 21, 2016.
Iran's unemployment rate during the summer (June 21-Sept. 21) stood at 12.7 percent.
