BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 3. Iran started the construction of the "Karun" Nuclear Power Plant in the Khuzestan Province (southwestern Iran), on December 3, Trend reports referring to the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI).
Chief of the AEOI, Mohammad Eslami, and other officials attended the event dedicated to the launch of the construction of the nuclear power plant.
According to the report, this NPP, which will be located in an area of about 50 hectares, has a pressurized water reactor (PWR), and the capacity to generate 300 megawatt-hours of electricity.
Nuclear plants with pressurized water reactors are among the most widely used plants in the world. The fuel of the mentioned stations is about 4 percent uranium oxide.
Iran's Atomic Energy Organization Karun plans to complete the construction of the station within 8 years and is expected to cost approximately $2 billion.
