Prices and situation in consumer market in Azerbaijan (january-october 2010)

In January-October 2010, a rise of the retail goods turnover got restored amid continuing rise of the community services and was 9.1%. The amount of retail goods turnover comprised 14.6bln. In particular, 74.4% accounted for retail trade, 25.6% - paid services.

In January-October 2010 trading networks of Azerbaijan sold population consumer goods at 10851.3 million manat, which is 8.6% more than 2009. Legal entities provided 14.0% of turnover, fairs and markets - 40.8%, individual entrepreneurs - 44.4%.

In January-October 2010, every citizen of the country acquired consumer goods and paid services at 162.7 manat that is 13.5 percent higher than 2009. 

In January-October 2010 commercial services to population made up 3727.8 million manat, or up 10.6 percent. Individual entrepreneurs provided 72.3% of services, legal entities - 27.7%, with growth of 11.3% and 8.9% respectively.

Prices

In January-October, the prices for consumer goods and tariffs for services rose 0.9 percent compared with the previous month, and compared to January-October 2009 grew by 5.3 percent (data from State Statistics Committee).

The prices for food products in October rose 1.4 percent compared to September, non-food products rose 0.9 percent, and tariffs for service declined 0.2%. 

Compared with January-October 2009, food prices grew by 6.2 percent, non-food products - 2.1 percent, and tariffs for the service sector - 5.2 percent.

In October 2010, the base index of the consumer prices incurring seasonal changes (fruits and vegetable) and being regulated by the Government rose by 0.7% as compared to the previous month, and 3.1% to 2009.    

As compared to the previous month, in October 2010 the index of industrial goods price declined 0.1%, but rose 34.4% compared to the same period of the last year.

The price in oil and gas production remained declined 0.3 percent in October compared to previous month, but rose 42.1% in January-October compared to the same period of 2009. 

The prices in refining chemical products increased 0.3% in the month, but increased 9.8% at annualized pace.   

In October, the prices in metallurgy increased 0.3 percent compared to the previous month, but rose 32.4% at annualized pace. The prices for electricity, gas and water remained unchanged compared to previous month, and during the year.
