The US Deputy Secretary of Defense Robert Work thanked Georgia's Defense Minister Tinatin Khidasheli for the Georgian contingent's contribution to global security, Sputnik reported Oct. 16 citing Georgian Defense Ministry Oct. 16.

Work delivered his gratitude to Khidasheli during a phone conversation.

Georgian servicemen have been from January 2015 taking part in a non-combat mission of NATO dubbed 'Resolute Support' to train and assist the Afghan government forces.

"The parties discussed issues related to participation in the 'Resolute Support' mission... the American side expressed its readiness to continue to assist the Georgian armed forces and support in terms of improving defense capabilities," said the ministry.

During the phone conversation, Work noted that a close cooperation with Georgia is important for the US government.

The parties also discussed the existing bilateral relations and future plans.
