Algerian army and security forces killed four terrorists and destroyed several hideouts in two separate operations in east of Algiers, local media reported on Sunday.
Unidentified security source said three terrorists were killed on Saturday in a combing operation carried out by the army in Tizi Ouzo province, 100 kilometers east of Algiers, in search for members of active terrorist groups in the area, Xinhua reported.
A fourth terrorist belonging to al-Qaida in Islamic Maghreb group (AQMI) was killed near the coastal city of Dellys, 100 km east of the capital, the source said.
Moreover, the security forces destroyed several hideouts and arms caches in the area.
Facing the increased threat by Algeria's Salafist-turned AQMI, Algeria and its several neighbors decided to launch massive military operations against its cells. Chiefs of staff of Algeria, Mali, Mauritania and Niger met in August to discuss cooperation in fighting terrorism along their borders.
