At least one person was killed and three others wounded on Sunday when Yemeni police forces opened fire to break up a demonstration protesting weeks-long fuel shortage in western Al-Hodayda province, witnesses said, Xinhua reported.

Hundreds of residents went to streets of Al-Zaidya district to demand the local authorities to provide cooking gas and car fuel after three weeks of acute gas and petrol shortages.

"Police forces fired on the crowds to disperse the demonstrators, killing one protester and injuring three others," eyewitnesses said.

Rocked by months-long protests demanding an immediate end to the 33-year rule of President Ali Abdullah Saleh, the country nowadays also suffers from lengthy blackouts and severe shortages in fuel, cooking gas and water.
