Tunisia's interim government on Tuesday rejected a proposal by the election commission to postpone the country's first free elections from July to October, dpa reported
Ministers had discussed the proposal "at length" and "decided to respect the date fixed by the government and president, that is to say the organization of the elections on July 24," government spokesman Taieb Baccouche said.
On Sunday, the election commission chief, Kamel Jendoubi, proposed postponing the election to October 16 to give the commission more time to organize a transparent poll.
Many Tunisians had expressed misgivings, saying a delay in the vote could fuel instability
