Israel Materials 17 January 2008 14:21 (UTC +04:00)

( dpa ) - Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip fired 13 rockets at southern Israel Thursday morning, bringing to approximately 100 the number of missiles and mortars launched since Tuesday.

The armed wings of the Islamic Hamas movement, and of President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah organization claimed responsibility for most of the barrages.

No serious injuries were reported.

The Israeli Ha'arezt daily quoted senior Israeli military officials as saying that if Hamas showed restraint and held back its attacks, Israel would do the same.

But, they said, Israel would re-evaluate its strategy if the rocket barrage continued.

Some 23 Palestinians, the majority militnats, have been killed in the Gaza Strip since Tuesday, in a series of Israeli ground and air strikes aimed at preventing and deterring the rocket launchings.
