FIFA suspends, fines Serbia coach Antic

Serbia's football federation said Wednesday that the sport's governing body FIFA has suspended Serbia's coach Radomir Antic for his behaviour after his team's loss to Australia in the World Cup, dpa reported.

Antic was given a four-match ban and a 14,000 Swiss francs (13,152 dollars) fine, Belgrade media reported.

It was not immediately clear what Antic had done to incur FIFA's wrath, but he did criticise the referee after the match, which Serbia lost 2-1 to go out of the World Cup.

The Serbian Football Federation protested against the punishment, calling it "extremely strict," and said it would appeal.

"This is not just punishment for Antic but for the entire squad and Serbian football as we are on a brink of qualifications for the 2012 European Championship," the association said in a statement. dpa ksp mis Author: Ksenija Prodanovic
