SOCAR expands infrastructure on oldest offshore field

The SOCAR company starts construction of the block type site No.1779 at the Oil Rocks field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, said the message of the SOCAR company posted on its website.

The platform is designed for drilling 10 production wells and will be located at a depth of 19 meters.

"The site will be equipped with modern drilling equipment, a residential block for 37 people, cranes, anti-corrosion system, the two landing sites, diesel generators and other necessary equipment," said the message. "During the period of construction and operation, all the modern standards and requirements for environmental protection will be carried out at the site."

The message said that the construction of the site be completed by late 2016. The debit of each well that is planned to be drilled from the platform will be 10 metric tons per day.

Neftqaztikinti trust of SOCAR is the contractor of the construction on the project of the Baku State Design Institute.

SOCAR is currently implementing a program to stabilize and increase the oil production volumes. For this purpose, SOCAR drills both onshore and offshore fields in Azerbaijan.

SOCAR produced 4.14 million metric tons of oil in offshore and onshore fields of the country in January-June 2015, which is 1.4 percent less than in the same period of last year (4.2 million metric tons).

SOCAR produced more than 8.32 million metric tons in 2014 compared to 8.31 million metric tons produced in 2013.

Over 42.4 million metric tons were produced in Azerbaijan in 2014 compared to 43.5 million metric tons produced in 2013.
