The State Service for Antimonopoly Policy and Consumer Protection of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economic Development has found low iodine content in salt from Russia and Ukraine during the regular monitoring aimed at preventing the sale of low quality salt in the country, the ministry reported.
According to laboratory analysis, the Extra salt brand produced by Ukraine's Slavonic salt-mining company and the Bassol salt produced in Russia had low levels of iodine, which does not comply with the appropriate indicators reflected on their packaging.
The service's laboratories found low iodine content in the salt during an analysis of samples taken from the warehouse of the Lavanda importing company in Ganja and Khachmaz.
The service has suspended sale of 67.7 tons of Extra salt and 10.5 tons of Bassol salt stored in the warehouses. The service tasked the Lavanda company with withdrawing its products from market.
