Several events will be held in Baku as part of the Year of Russian History on Feb. 16-17. Trend, Novosti-Azerbaijan and Interfax-Azerbaijan are media partners.

The initiators are the History Faculty of Moscow State University, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Caucasus Bulletin news and analytical agency.

Editor-in-Chief of the Caucasus Bulletin Alexei Vlasov said the main purpose of the meeting is to discuss effective ways to maintain a common historical sphere between Azerbaijan and Russia.

"We need an open and impartial conversation about the great and tragic events in our history," he said. "It is necessary to discuss the topics that have been considered by non-professionals and politicians for a long time who were trying to embroil the friendly peoples of our countries, especially when it comes to such events of our common
history as the Great Patriotic War."

Vlasov said students traveled to Baku from Moscow to celebrate Victory Day in Baku on May 9 with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation last year. The future historians had the opportunity to speak with veterans.

"One can realize during these moments that history and the present are inextricably linked," he said. "It is remarkable that there are people who can convey a sense of community."
