Kazakhstan's and Azerbaijan's contacts on energy issues, oil transportation, the use of the Caspian Sea as a transport artery for Kazakhstan to reach the Black Sea and Europe are the major points of bilateral cooperation, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said in Almaty after a bilateral meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Thursday.

Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed that despite the difficulties that have occurred in connection with the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with Armenia, Azerbaijan has achieved significant successes over 20 years of independence, Kazinform reported.

"We are neighbors across the Caspian Sea," the President said. "The Caspian Sea problems are common. Our countries are specifically solving its status. We have great prospects for cooperation in the industrial sector, as well as oil and gas industry, in which Azerbaijan has great experience. Our specialists must more actively use it."

The Kazakh President said there are great prospects for cooperation in the transport sector.

"Azerbaijan will become one of the most important transport arteries for the Kazakh oil and other products in the future," the President said. "The construction of a new railroad from Turkey through Georgia, Azerbaijan to the Caspian Sea will make it possible to deliver Caucasus goods across Kazakhstan to China. This project promises great benefits for both parties."

He also stressed that there is potential for cooperation in the field of agriculture.
"Today we have spoken about the supply of fruits and vegetables to the western regions of Kazakhstan," the Kazakh President said. "Therefore, these regions must cooperate with Azerbaijan in this field for mutual benefit."
