Azerbaijan’s Classic Popular Front Party Refuses from Participation in Presidential Elections

Azerbaijan, Baku, 2 August /Тrend News, J.Babayeva/ On 2 August, the supreme council of the Classic Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (CPFPA) decided not to participate in the presidential elections, Chairman of Party's Supreme Council Zalimkhan Mammadli said to Trend on 2 August. 

"Democratic conditions have not been provided for participation in the elections. At the meeting, majority voted for non-participation," he said.

Presidential elections will take place in Azerbaijan on 15 October.

Miralioglu, former Deputy Chairman of Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA's chairman was country's ex-President Abulfaz Elchibay), chaired PFPA of Classics after PFPA split in 2000. In March 2000, Miralioglu's party was renamed into CPFPA.

In December, 2007, the Supreme Council of CPFPA decided to participate in the presidential elections.

Officially nominated presidential candidates are the Chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party Ilham Aliyev, Muasir Musavat - Hafiz Hajiyev, Umid party - Igbal Agazade, Azerbaijan Liberal and Democratic Party - Fuad Aliyev and the Greens Party - Mais Gulaliyev. Azerbaijan Democratic Party decided not to participate in the elections.
