Azerbaijani Authorities Make Every Effort for Objectivity and Transparency of Elections: CIS Executive Committee Secretary

Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 October/ Trend , corr R. Novruzov/ CIS mission for presidential elections in Azerbaijan is satisfied with the preparations for elections.

"Azerbaijani authorities make every effort for objectivity and transparency of upcoming presidential elections," Sergey Lebedev, secretary of CIS Executive Committee and head of observation mission for presidential elections in Azerbaijan said to journalists in Baku.

The presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held on 15 October. A total of seven candidates will take part in the elections including Ilham Aliyev, chairman of Ruling New Azerbaijan Party, Igbal Agazade, chairman of opposition Umid (Hope) Party, Fazil Gazanfaroglu, chairman of Great Establishment Party, Gudrat Hasanguliyev, chairman of Unified Popular Front Party, Hafiz Hajiyev, chairman of Muasir Musavat Party, Fuad Aliyev, chairman of Liberal Democrat Party and independent candidate Gulamhuseyn Alibayli.

"Preparations for elections are very good. We will watch voting closely in all regions. I think installation of web cameras in polling stations indicates that authorities are making every effort for transparency and objectivity of elections," Lebedev said.

He said Azerbaijani voters have a very good knowledge of politics. "They do not easily believe in populist statements of candidates. We have held several meetings with voters and became convinced that they are more responsible about elections," CIS Executive Committee secretary said.
