Georgian ombudsman favors Abkhazian journalist

Georgia, Tbilisi, Feb.19 / Trend N. Kirtskhalia / Georgian ombudsman Sozar Subari calls Abkhazian government to respect general human rights and critically approach to attempts to limit freedom of speech in Abkhazia regardless of orchestrators of these attempts, according to the ombudsman's statement.

Upon the statement, the Georgian ombudsman shows solidarity with Abkhazian journalists and condemns violent acts against editor of "Chegem Pravda" newspaper Inal Khashig.

He was attacked, taken to a wood and threatened that they will treat him just like they treated Anna Politovskaya if he will continue the publication of critical materials on activity of Sukhumi government.    

The ombudsman applies to the international community, human rights organizations to attentively approach to the current issue and provide journalists with freedom of speech.
