Silvio Berlusconi invites Turkmen President to visit Italy

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi invited Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov to visit Italy, local media reported on Apr. 1.

Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Alfredo Mantica conveyed the invitation when on visit to Ashgabat. The Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary (TDH) reported that gratefully accepting the invitation Berdimuhammedov noted that relations between Turkmenistan and Italy are constructive and that provides for a solid foundation for further development.

"We have much to offer each other, taking into account the cooperation experience and mutual economic potential," Berdimuhammedov said.

The officials exchanged views on prospects for cooperation in bilateral format and as part of successfully developing Turkmenistan-EU dialogue. They said the fuel and energy sector and trade are among priority areas. Possibilities to establish contacts in the textile industry, food industry and advanced technologies were touched upon.
