The competence of presidential candidates in Iran has been confirmed and announced in Iran, FARS news agency reported. The process took five days to complete.
Presidential elections will be held in Iran on June 12. Official registration of candidates at the Iranian elections commission began on May 5 and ended on May 9.
The candidates can make appeals to the Iranian Supervisory Council in five days. The council will consider the appeals and announce its decision on May 20.
Presidential elections in Iran are held once in four years.
Candidates to presidency can participate in the elections after getting approval from the Iranian Supervisory Council
The candidate takes the office of president after approval of his/her status by the Supreme Leader. President, a second top official after the Supreme Leader, supervises the executive administration and determines foreign and domestic policy.
Officially registered candidates include Incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, former Revolutionary Guards head Mohsen Rezai, ex-parliament speaker Mehdi Karroubi and former prime minister Mir Hossein Mousavi.
According to the Iranian Elections Committee, 400 people have been registered to participate in the elections. Some 1,014 people were registered during the presidential elections in Iran in 2005. The Iraian Supervisory Council confirmed the competence of only seven.
