The Turkmen President, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov called for active involvement of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Ashgabat to resolve the situation in Afghanistan, the UN News Center reports from New York, which is now hosting the general political discussion at the 64th UN General Assembly.
"We want to see Afghanistan a peaceful and prosperous country, a good neighbor and partner of all countries of the region," said the President. He emphasized that UN with her huge peacekeeping experience and the highest moral authority can and should play an important role in the Afghan settlement.
Head of the Turkmen state called for more active involvement of the UN Center in resolving the problems of Afghanistan. He said that his country attaches special importance to the revival of Afghanistan and approval of lasting peace in the Afghan lands. Turkmenistan provides assistance to Afghanistan in rebuilding its economy and constructing facilities of social and humanitarian supplies.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that the serious consequences of the global financial crisis once again demonstrated the necessity of uniting efforts to build a global security architecture, to create conditions for equitable and just relations between nations and peoples. He added that UN should a point of rest for countries' creative activities.
